So you’ve written a book and you’re getting ready to self-publish using one of the many indie publishing companies – CreateSpace, Lulu, Smashwords – but you realise that you’re going to have to do all the marketing yourself because you don’t have a publishing house behind you.
Where to start?
There are many marketing routes open to the self-publishing author, not least the internet and the opportunities it provides. So as well as the bookmarks sent to book clubs, the press releases to local newspapers and the free review copies, you need to have an online marketing plan and a great marketing tool is the fairly recent innovation – the book trailer video.
What is a book trailer?
A book trailer is a video which provides minimal information regarding your book, but does so by visual images. It is a teaser video and works in the same way as a film trailer you might see at a cinema, only being a self-published author, you’re likely to have a much smaller budget than a film studio to create a trailer, or probably no budget at all.
Can you create a book trailer?
Yes, you can. Using free software and photographs or movies you’ve taken yourself on your own camera, you can create a perfectly decent book trailer to promote your book.
I’ve put together a 6-part series to take you through the book trailer video process, from concept to distribution. I hope you find it helpful.
