A disorganised work method can lead to long and unproductive working hours. Implement these 5 tips to improve office efficiency and be more productive.
To-Do list – at the end of each working day, jot down a To-Do list for the next morning, ensuring each task is numbered in order of priority. This will mean that nothing is forgotten, leaving you free to enjoy your evening.
File things away – if you have to regularly refer to certain documents, have them filed neatly, whether they be printed materials or digital files. Knowing exactly where your reference materials are will stop you having to hunt for them. It will also make it easier for colleagues to access them should they need to do so when you are absent or without having to bother you.
Return calls promptly – respond to your phone messages promptly. If someone has called you and is expecting a return call, don’t put it aside for later if you are able to answer it straight away. This will not only mean you keep on top of your smaller tasks, but is an exercise in good customer service.
Keep your desk tidy – endeavour to tidy your desk at the end of each day so that you aren’t faced with a pile of work that belonged to yesterday. If your office is frequented by visitors, a tidy workspace presents a good image. Also, a tidy desk can provide a significant psychological boost, making you feel more ordered and in control.
Take regular breaks – step away from your desk at least once every hour. This will not only give you a mental break so you can return to your work refreshed and focused, but will also give your eyes a rest from the computer screen. Walking around, even just around the office, will improve your blood flow around your body.
